A 25 year veteran of the high school coaching ranks, Coach Johnson enters his 14th season as the head of the Panther program. A graduate of Newbury Park High School, Coach Johnson continued his playing career at Pomona College where he started at guard for current Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Coach J’s tenure at NPHS has included two league championships, numerous playoff appearances and four Ventura County Players of the Year. Each summer his basketball camps provide fundamentals and fun for hundreds of local youngsters. Coach Johnson teaches AP and IB History and serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Key Club and Amnesty International Club.

Varsity Assistant Coach Jake DeGennaro

Varsity Assistant, Jake DeGennaro enters his 1st campaign as Varsity Assistant coach (6 years as JV Coach) and individual workout expert. Panther players who commit to summer “Breakfast with Jake” workouts always report in the fall with vastly improved skills and work ethic. A great point guard for Westlake High School, Coach Jake saw his college career cut short by a knee injury. A graduate of CSUN, Coach Jake works in the insurance business when not working his magic with the young Panthers.
